OUR VISION

Each year a dedicated group of pre-service, early childhood education professionals from CQ University combine with their local community to lift the profile of Early Childhood Education and Care. In the past this has been achieved by participating in various Under 8's Week celebrations.

The year 2009 sparked a momentous occasion for Early Childhood Education and Care within our local community. This year, we took things one step further, holding an event of our own...

"TASTE AN ARTS SENSATION: Feeding Young Children's Appetite for Learning"

Marina Stage, Sunday, 24th May 2009, 10am- 2pm

This event aligned with educational and political agendas. Education Queensland has called 2009, The Year of Creativity, signaling a renewed emphases on the value of creativity within the education sector. Our event aimed to align 'The Year of Creativity' with Queensland's 150th birthday celebrations to succesfully raise the profile of young children and Early Childhood services.

Early childhood educators have long recognised the importance of creative activities and are passionate about promoting children's creativity. The range of art-focused early childhood initiatives in centres, schools and the wider community around our region is impressive. But embracing arts activities and understanding thier value in early childhood contexts- especially as a basis for later learning- can be the biggest challenge. Ensuring early chilhdood professionals are able to plan and implement appropriate visual and performing arts activities for young children requires a special focus.

We firmly believe that education in creativity starts in our earliest years and we are dedicated to adovocating the young child's right for this within our community.
